The Code White Alert has been issued for Negros Oriental by the Provincial Health Office (PHO) in order to track and stop the spread of sickness during the peak of the Buglasan Festival and the impending All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days celebration.

According to Administrative Order 2008-0024, also known as the Integrated Alert System for the Health Sector of the Department of Health, Assistant Provincial Health Officer Liland Estacion stated to the Philippine News Agency on Monday that the Code White Alert will last from October 21 to November 3 as a result (DOH).

Estacion said in a mix of English and Cebuano, “We need to put the province under the said level of restrictions during these days due to the anticipated influx of people coming from many areas to attend the Buglasan festivities as well as those who want to visit their deceased relatives during the ‘kalag-kalag’ (Undas) observance.”

It is now up to the provincial and local government entities to establish and introduce policies and actions that will assist prevent the transmission of diseases, notably the coronavirus sickness 2019, she said, as the province no longer requires people to submit their vaccination cards (Covid-19).

She said that in addition to isolated Covid-19 instances, the province is currently seeing a steady increase in dengue and typhoid fever illnesses.

Code White will increase surveillance at entry and exit points, prepare labs and referral hospitals, monitor diseases brought in from abroad, prepare essential medications and personal protective equipment, follow case detection, management, and referral protocols based on prior outbreaks, and develop risk communication systems, among other things.

The Buglasan Festival, which takes place every October and draws sizable audiences to the province’s capital city where the festivities are staged at various locations, is the province’s main display of its many town and city festivals, cultural heritage, socio-economic, tourist, and other activities.
