Due to Tropical Storm Paeng’s severe rains, Northern Mindanao Local Government Units (LGUs) on Friday canceled classes.

The week-long Lanzones Festival in Camiguin province required the suspension of even the day’s scheduled events, according to Governor Xavier Jesus Romualdo.

Classes in Camiguin have been suspended as a result of the widespread heavy rain, according to a Facebook post by Romualdo.

Additionally, the mayors of Valencia City in the province of Bukidnon and Gingoog City in the Misamis Oriental issued orders to halt courses.

Huervas stated in a memo ordering that “the tropical storm (Paeng) threatens the safety of our children in the 31 barangays, thus the suspension of school is deemed necessary.”

Local disaster risk reduction management offices in every LGU are on standby and are collaborating with the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council for the storm update, according to Mabs Galvez, the point of contact for the Office of the Civil Defense in Region 10.

Galvez claimed that five LGUs in Bukidnon had ordered the suspension of classes based on preliminary information from the operations center.

Two households were evacuated beforehand in Sitio Balbagon, Mambajao (Camiguin); excursions between Benoni port and Balingoan port (Misamis Oriental), and vice versa, she added.
