More people with disabilities (PWD) will be awarded plantilla or regular posts, the local government announced on Friday.

Following approval of the establishment of the Persons with Disabilities Affairs Center – Persons with Disabilities Affairs Office (PDAC-PDAO) as a division under the City Social Welfare and Development Office on the third and final reading on October 18, this occurred (CSWDO).

The unit will be in charge of the information, education, and communication campaigns (IECs), as well as technical and monitoring activities, according to Sarah Festin, chief of the CSWDO Social Welfare Operations Division. The unit will also handle PWD identification cards.

The division head, assistant division head, administrative staff of the division, regular jobs under the Operations section, and regular positions under the unit’s Promotive section are among the 15 roles that must be filled in accordance with the ordinance.

Festin emphasized that the city has traditionally provided PWD IDs, even without the statute that formalizes the division’s establishment.

She emphasized the significance of the division and the need for regular employees, particularly in light of the expansion of the definition of a PWD.

“According to our 2021 data, there are roughly 19,000 PWDs. In addition to that, we have seven different categories for people with disabilities, according to Festin.

The CSWDO has collaborated with the City Council’s Committee on Social Services to advance another piece of legislation that would let PWDs staff help stations in barangays.
