La Union and Pangasinan prepare for Paeng
Red alert has been issued for Pangasinan and La Union provinces in preparation for the potential arrival of Severe Tropical Storm Paeng.
Patrick Aquino, the operations supervisor for the Pangasinan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), said in a phone interview on Saturday that rescue personnel and equipment had been placed in the province’s flood and landslide-prone areas in advance.
In the towns of Bani, Mangatarem, San Fabian, and Calasiao, we have rescue equipment. As of Saturday morning, according to our ongoing monitoring of the river systems, they are all at normal levels.
Cloudy skies are present in the province, according to Aquino, but heavy rain is predicted during the afternoon.
The Philippine National Police, Philippine Coast Guard, Provincial Health Office, and the Armed Forces of the Philippines are all on full alert level, according to him.
Brian Joves, the operations officer for the La Union PDRRMO, stated in a separate interview that the local government units have already been informed as the provincial government has prepared the evacuation centers and relief supplies.
Due to the severe weather, we are also discouraging our fishermen from setting sail, he added.
Due to Paeng, the municipality of San Juan, a popular surfing location in the province, has issued an order to temporarily close rivers and beaches on Friday.
Beaches and rivers within the San Juan, La Union territory are hereby declared temporarily blocked until further notice. In all rivers and oceans, no swimming, surfing, or other water sports are permitted, according to a warning from Mayor Arturo Valdriz.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that Paeng was last seen near Mogpog, Marinduque, and was carrying winds with a maximum sustained speed of 95 kph and gustiness of up to 130 kph in the center.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 is in effect for Pangasinan, while No. 1 is in effect for La Union.
