Teodoro Bacani Jr., the Emeritus Bishop of Novaliches, advised the faithful on Friday to commemorate All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day as days of prayer on November 1 and 2, respectively.

He made the appeal because some Filipinos want to make special occasions scary and fun by going to events like Halloween parties.

In an interview broadcast on Church-run Radio Veritas, he remarked, “Let’s make today (Undas) a day of prayer for the saints and departed loved ones, not just a party.”

All Saints’ Day, according to the retiring bishop, is a time to remember all the church saints who gave their lives to serving the Lord.

According to Bacani, All Souls’ Day is a significant occasion for families to get together and pray for the comfort of departed loved ones who might be undergoing purification in order to enter the kingdom of heaven, particularly those who perished in the coronavirus pandemic, war, and other catastrophes.

As it is the day of the souls on November 2, he urged people to pray for them in the hopes that they will someday join the saints in entering the heavenly realm.

The Catholic priest also urged the people of the Philippines to maintain peace, order, and cleanliness during the celebration of Undas 2022.

After two years owing to the pandemic, the authorities this year permitted the reopening of cemeteries across the nation.

Radio Veritas encouraged the faithful to email prayer requests for the souls of their deceased family members, friends, and loved ones.

Additionally, they can say Masses for their beloved dead. They can reach Renee Jose of the Religious Department by texting 09176314589 or calling 8925-7931 to 39, local 129.
