Caritas Manila donates P1.7 million in help to Paeng-affected districts.
The communities in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao hit by Severe Tropical Storm Paeng have already received nearly PHP1 million in financial and in-kind aid from the Archdiocese of Manila through its social action arm, Caritas Manila.
Church-run According to a report from Radio Veritas on Monday, the archbishop has already contributed PHP1,709,000 in cash and kind.
A total of PHP500,000 of the money was provided to the Archdiocese of Cotabato, which was severely damaged by the storm and saw the deaths of 70 persons.
For the typhoon-affected towns of San Jose de Buenavista, Sibalom, Hamtic, Patnongon, Laua-an, Belison, Bugasong, San Remegio, Tibiao, Valderama, and Tobias Fornier, it also gave PHP200,000 to the Social Action Center of the Diocese of Antique.
According to the data from the Antique Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Office, Paeng had an impact on 7,506 families, totaling 30,328 people.
The Diocese of Kalibo in the province of Aklan and the Archdiocese of Capiz Social Action Center, meanwhile, each received PHP200,000 in cash assistance.
Caritas Manila also provided “in kind relief response” to the Diocese of Antipolo (269 manna packets at PHP269,000) and the Diocese of San Pablo in Laguna in addition to financial assistance (340 manna packs worth PHP340,000).
The provinces of Luzon that were also impacted by the typhoon are receiving relief in the form of money and goods from the Manila archdiocese.
In order to expand its campaign and help more people in the tropical cyclone-affected areas, Caritas Manila is simultaneously pleading with the public for donations to support it.
Jose Cardinal Advincula, the archbishop of Manila, had already urged the faithful to have mercy on disaster victims.
