Following the recent deaths of two children from the disease, the Davao City Covid-19 Task Force renewed its request for parents to immunize their kids on Monday.

One fatality from the five to 11 age range and one from the 12 to 17 age group were among the ten reported deaths between October 23 and October 29, according to Dr. Michelle Schlosser, the task force’s spokesman, in a radio interview.

Schlosser disproved the assertions of some parents that kids have robust immune systems and are impervious to Covid-19 infection.

“Our data reveals that even the young ones who others think have a good immune system could still die from the virus,” she said, referring to children who have not yet received a vaccine.

She lamented that Dabawenyos kept losing their lives to Covid-19 although it was curable with vaccine and booster doses.

According to Schlosser, there were no side effects associated with the vaccination among children.

“Not everybody will go through it. Others will then have negative reactions only out of fear,” she stated.

She said that from Monday through Friday, the city’s district health clinics provided continuous immunization services, and on Saturdays and Sundays, vaccinations could be obtained at People’s Park.

Schlosser meanwhile urged the populace to take safety measures to prepare for the impending Christmas season’s flood of people.

She claimed that because voluntary face mask use is permitted indoors and outdoors, with the exception of public transit and medical facilities, contracting Covid-19 is inevitable despite the minimal minimum public health requirements.

We hope we all get ourselves vaccinated before going to Christmas parties, caroling, or reunions, she said.
