After a state of national emergency, the COVID-19 reaction may continue.

Even after the current state of national calamity expires this year, the Department of Health (DOH) has suggested that the nation’s emergency response to the coronavirus continue.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. designated the Public Health Emergency for Emerging and Reemerging Disease proposal as a priority measure, and DOH Officer-in-Charge Maria Rosario Vergeire announced they have presented it to the House of Representatives.

“In this bill, you’d discover the various components that, even if there isn’t a state of emergency, we can still carry out (what we must do even if there isn’t an emergency),” she said.

Among these are the acquisition of Covid-19 vaccines, the provision of benefits for healthcare professionals, and reductions in medications used to treat Covid-19.

If this law is implemented, Vergeire stated, “we won’t need to worry about anything because this will replace and be the foundation of the many steps that we’ll take in terms of a public health emergency.”

She said that on October 10, at Marcos’ first-ever meeting of the Legislative Executive Development Advisory Council, the bill had been addressed.

According to Vergeire, they told the lawmakers that because everyone in the Philippines is connected to the situation of the national catastrophe proclamation, a replacement is important.

The President expressly stated throughout the discussion that passing this bill is a priority.

Regarding the Covid-19 scenario, Vergeire said there would still be cases because the coronavirus is still evolving and might potentially become more contagious or immune to vaccination. Nevertheless, the nation can handle it.

“We can manage you through our medical facilities even though we believe you to be in serious need of medical care right now. Most particularly, kasi tayo ngayon may antivirals. Mas kumokonti ‘yung nagiging severe (We control it with the help of our medical facilities, and more people are getting shots right now.) Antiviral medications, in particular, are available, and severe [cases] are declining “She spoke.

On November 10, 1,267 additional infections in total were reported, bringing the total number of active cases to 16,526.

The National Capital Region had 2,925 new illnesses over the course of the previous two weeks, followed by Calabarzon (1,716) and Western Visayas (1,332).
