As of Nov. 12, the positivity rate, or the proportion of people who tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), had dropped to 7.5% in the National Capital Region (NCR).

Dr. Guido David, an OCTA Research Group fellow, reported on Monday that the region’s positive rate for the previous week was 8.2 percent through Twitter.

Apart from the NCR, eight other areas experienced a decline in the positivity rate within the same time frame.

These include Batangas, which saw a decrease of 6.3 percent from 7.3 percent, Cavite, which saw an increase of 10.1 percent from 13 percent, Davao del Sur, which saw an increase of 8.7 percent from 15.3 percent, Iloilo, which saw an increase of 10.2 percent from 12.6, Misamis Oriental, which saw a decrease of 24.6 percent from 28.8 percent, Rizal, which saw a decrease of 10.3 percent from 14.5 percent, South Co

David claimed this week that as the coronavirus continues to mutate into new and more contagious strains, the public’s awareness of self-protection may be to blame for the decline in Covid-19 levels in the NCR and other densely populated places.

On the other side, three regions had an increase in the positive rate: from 8.4 percent last week to 14.2 percent in Cagayan; from 29.8 percent to 33.3 percent in Camarines Sur; and from 9.6 percent to 11.2 percent in Pampanga.
