Farmers in CamNorte who plant citronella receive a livelihood project from DOLE
Citronella producers in the province have been given a livelihood improvement project by the Department of Labor and Employment in Bicol (DOLE-5) through its Camarines Norte Provincial Office in an effort to further improve their lives.
The Kooperatiba ng Maliit na mga Magniniyog ng Barangay Kanapawan (KMMBK) got PHP398,741 on Monday for the project Productivity Enhancement on Aromatic Citronella Extract, according to Johana Vi Gasga, a DOLE-Bicol representative, in an interview on Tuesday (PEACE).
The money will be used to buy the supplies, machinery, and equipment needed to process citronella oil and its byproducts.
“KMMBK is one of the sustainable livelihood framework groups that the Department supports, and in 2014, the office gave them a machine to extract oil for their endeavor to produce citronella oil. Project PEACE is an initiative by the agency to increase production and sales, which proved to be extremely beneficial to its 50 direct recipients, according to Gasga.
According to her, the improvement project would pay for the acquisition of extra machinery to speed up production without sacrificing quality.
“The growers produced a variety of items, including citronella oil, soap, insect repellent cream, and massage oil. Sales are anticipated to rise as the market for the goods as mentioned above expands, according to Gasga.
“I hope this fund will help the members of the cooperative and grow your business, even more, to provide jobs and additional income to the member-beneficiaries,” Cherry Mosatalla, head of the Camarines Norte Field Office, said during the awarding on Monday.
In a statement, Ma. Zenaida Angara-Campita, the regional director of DOLE-5, said that because of the perseverance and dedication displayed by the beneficiaries to maintain their livelihoods, the government is more appreciative of each individual’s success and believes that they are deserving of the livelihood enhancement package from DOLE.
