Courses that support the current trends in digital marketing should be offered by local schools.

Governor Carlos Jericho Petilla made this observation during the beginning of the 16th Leyte Business Conference on Tuesday at the Leyte Academic Center: “I’ve noticed that practically all colleges in the region provide largely traditional degrees like Education and Criminology.”

“We must alter the way we think or we will fall behind. In this digital age, our institutions need to focus on in-demand careers, Petilla said the audience of businesspeople, academics, and students.

According to Petilla, some of the most in-demand professions include application developers, coders, ethical hackers, internet merchants, and gamers.

The owner of a business process outsourcing company in this area, Petilla, stated, “We need to adjust our curriculum to adapt to the signs of the times.”

He mentioned the Bachelor of Science in Entertainment and Multimedia Computing offered by Mapua University in Manila and the Bachelor of Science in Electronic Sports offered by Lyceum of the Philippines University.

The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) Tacloban – Leyte Incorporated is hosting a two-day business conference with the topic “Bouncing Back Better via Sustainable Technology and Innovation.”

The first face-to-face business conference hosted by the local PCCI chapter since the Covid-19 outbreak broke out in March 2020, discussions are focused on digital marketing, agricultural modernization, and the tourism sector.

According to PCCI Tacloban-Leyte, Inc. president Eugene Tan, local firms should be encouraged to use digital marketing.

Since rice millers have been complaining that our local farmers are producing less rice as a result of high production costs, we also covered agriculture, the speaker continued.

Alongside the conference, a job fair is being conducted with 1,000 openings from 52 local businesses.
