Baguio is going to invest P472 million in social housing.
The municipal government hopes to start construction on a housing project for residents and staff of city hall after it buys the site for PHP472 million.
Architect Donna Tabangin, a city planning, and development officer (CPDO), said in an interview on Wednesday that PHP108 million would be used for the purchase of a 1.4-hectare property and its access, PHP110 million for site development, and PHP254 million for the building of approximately 13 low- to medium-rise condominium-style buildings.
The local administration would attempt to report the situation to the Department of Human Settlement and Urban Development (DHSUD) for budgetary support, she said, noting the vast sum needed to realize the housing project for government employees.
Depending on their ability to pay, Tabangin said the housing units will be made available to qualifying city hall employees under a proposed 20-year payment plan that will be handled by the National Housing Authority (NHA).
The housing development in Barangay Pinsao Proper, once completed, will be the second socialized housing development in the city.
A home project is being finished at the Luna Terraces in Barangay Irisan.
After mapping around 60% of people living in protected areas and identifying city properties that are currently being reclaimed for their use, the city government has created a list of informal settlers.
Future socialist housing projects will give priority to the impacted residents as their beneficiaries.
