In preparation for the impending community validation for possible recipients of the government cash grant under the Targeted Cash Transfer (TCT) program in the Bicol Region, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is now training its staff.

According to Jessica Bechayda, DSWD-Bicol information officer for Listahanan, training for 139 field validators and 17 area supervisors began on Wednesday and would end on Tuesday the following week.

By the end of the month, she stated, they are expected to be deployed.

According to Bechayda, “The potential recipient needs to go through validation to confirm their eligibility and determine if there are duplicates and contradictions in the data.”

She said that the TCT program, which tries to lessen the consequences of the rise in fuel and commodities prices, is not a typical DSWD program but rather a cash handout for the very poor.

The beneficiary household will receive PHP500 per month or PHP3,000 in cash help over a six-month period, she said.

Bechayda added that the validation verifies the true status of the households, including the address, whether a family member is living or dead, and the family’s income.

The possible grant recipients’ payment methods, such as whether they have Landbank accounts, Gcash, or Paymaya, would also be verified by the validators, she added.

A total of 209,108 families in Bicol will go through validation, according to DSWD data.
