DAR increases ODA to fight poverty and war in settlement areas.
Conrado Estrella III, the secretary for agrarian reform, will carry out initiatives to reduce poverty, advance agriculture, create jobs, and uphold peace and order in settlement zones that will be supported by ODA (ODA).
This comes after Estrella established the Project Development Team, whose job it is to determine which of the 57 settlement zones in the nation require help improving their living conditions.
Estrella stated in a press release on Sunday that the team, under the direction of Dr. Ma. Cristina Dagdag, would prepare and package project proposals that could offer a range of support services, such as training, market linkage, credit assistance, farm-to-market roads, bridges, irrigation systems, and potable water systems.
The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) will carry out the initiative, and funding will come from underdeveloped nations like Japan, France, Spain, and others.
Team members Jose Arevalo, Paul Joseph Gamalinda, and Henry Zapata of the Foreign-Assisted Special Project Office, as well as Anacleta Mariano, Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer 1, will provide assistance to Dagdag.
Estrella claimed that the most recent action is consistent with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s priority program to advance agriculture, increase food production, and end hunger and poverty.
The ODA is a type of government assistance that specifically targets and promotes the welfare and economic growth of developing nations like the Philippines.
By funding, among other things, the DAR’s special projects, like the Mindanao Sustainable Settlement Area Development, the Mindanao Sustainable Agrarian and Agriculture Development, and other settlement areas in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, the ODA has previously played a significant role in the country’s rural development program.
