OPS and PLM collaborate to provide an online master’s degree program.
A memorandum of arrangement (MOA) was signed between the Office of the Press Secretary (OPS) and the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) to offer qualifying OPS workers an off-campus Master of Public Administration program.
State-run PTV-4 said that the agreement was signed at the New Executive Building at Malacaan Palace by PLM President Emmanuel Leyco and OPS officer-in-charge and Undersecretary Cheloy Garafil.
The OPS stated that by offering suitable education, skills, and values to better provide acceptable information and communication services to the public, the partnership is expected to improve the competencies of its workforce.
Four employees from the Bureau of Communications Services and 14 OPS employees have submitted applications for the program thus far.
More students are anticipated to enroll in the free graduate course, especially since the OPS plans to make the curriculum available to the staff of its affiliated agencies.
Classes will be held every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and are anticipated to begin in December.
When face-to-face instruction becomes required, the OPS stated that it also plans to set up a location for the lessons and provide appropriate tools, such as whiteboards and LCD projectors.
Garafil advised the OPS employees to take advantage of the chance, noting that it would help them progress both professionally and personally.
Along with Garafil and Leyco, other participants in the MOA signing included PLM Dean Noemi Gocuyo, OPS Undersecretary Ina Reformina, Undersecretary Marlon Purificacion, and Undersecretary Greggy Eugenio.
The PLM is the first and only autonomous, authorized university supported by a local administration.
