Marcos urges the media: Support the government’s information campaign.

The Philippine media has been urged to assist President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in his administration’s attempts to scale up its campaign to inform the people of the government’s policies, initiatives, and accomplishments.

When the newly elected officers and board of trustees of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) took the oath of office on Friday, Marcos made the call.

In a ceremony conducted in the President’s Hall of the Malacanang Palace, Marcos reaffirmed his commitment to defending the rights of journalists in the nation, according to a Facebook post from the Office of the President (OP).

The OP added that “PBBM (Marcos) acknowledged the media’s efforts and underlined that their rights will be preserved and protected on several occasions.”
Additionally, the President urged the media to assist the government in successfully communicating its initiatives.

The KBP is a non-government and non-profit organization of the broadcast media in the Philippines that was founded on April 27, 1973. Its objectives are to promote responsible and free broadcast media as well as support its members’ continued relevance in Philippine society.

The KBP also aims to expand broadcast innovation, strengthen public service broadcasters provide, and grow Philippine broadcast media.

Marcos pledged to prioritize the welfare of the media and expressed his willingness to give an ear and listen to all of their problems on October 5 at the President’s Night hosted by the Manila Overseas Press Club at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza in Pasay City.

He made the promise while praising the media for its proactive role in keeping the people “well-informed.”

He also understood the critical role the media plays in enhancing information availability and increasing public awareness of important topics.

The Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS) voiced optimism on Thursday that the Marcos administration’s efforts to protect press freedom will succeed.

The PTFoMS claimed that the Philippines’ removal from the annual Global Impunity Index of the press freedom watchdog Committee to Protect Journalists is “just a matter of time.”
