As the number of passengers increases, NAIA steps up security measures.

Following the terminal switching of some flights amid the anticipated surge in travelers this Christmas season, more security measures will be put in place at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), an official announced on Monday.

Additional personnel, tools, and screening procedures are just a few of the things that can be anticipated at the nation’s primary entry point, according to Ma. O Aplasca, Administrator of the Office for Transportation Security (OTS).

Beginning on December 1, passengers flying Philippine Airlines (PAL) into and out of NAIA’s Terminal 1 may anticipate an additional screening procedure, according to Aplasca.

Earlier, PAL declared that starting on December 1st, its flights to and from the US, Guam, and Doha will operate from Terminal 2 in Terminal 1.

“Some of the employees and the equipment that PAL uses at Terminal 2 were moved to Terminal 1. Last week, we carried out an inspection and requested some modifications, “In an interview with the Philippine News Agency, Aplasca stated.

Additional pre-departure tests are necessary due to PAL.

During this busy time of year, at least 40 more OTS employees who are now assigned to the headquarters will be deployed to the NAIA.

There are currently 1,156 OTS employees working in NAIA’s four terminals. The additional 40, according to Aplasca, will aid in the baggage screening process as they prepare for an increase in the number of passengers.

To aid in the screening of travelers and their parcels, advanced imaging technology (AIT) scanners and computer tomography (CT) scanners have also been installed at Terminals 1, 2, and 3.

These scanners are more sophisticated than the single-view and double-view x-ray screeners the airport has long used and could detect potential bombs.

“Even if liquid or a laptop were left in the luggage, the CT scanner would still be able to detect potential bombs. Similar to this, the AIT would find a metal from the passenger right away “explained him.

Six AIT scanners and four CT units are currently in use at the airport.

Aplasca expressed the hope that the government will buy more of this gear in order to bring the nation’s airport security and safety up to level with other countries.
