DTI promises to continue assisting MSMEs in Zambales

In accordance with the government’s active involvement in regional development, the provincial office of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Zambales province has committed to keeping assisting local business owners.

Provincial director Enrique Tacbad, the DTI officer in charge, claimed that the agency’s success was made possible by the assistance of the local government entities and the commercial sector.

According to Tacbad, who spoke to the media on Tuesday, “The DTI-Zambales is so proud and grateful to local governments and the commercial sector that work hand-in-hand with DTI in promoting the local products and services of Zambales, as well as giving technical supports.”

As of November of this year, the DTI-Zambales has carried out 279 sales promotions for regional goods and offered 3,447 MSMEs administrative and technical help.

Additionally, the DTI-Zambales approved and issued 7,198 new business names as well as 1,044 Barangay Micro Business Enterprises (BMBE), which are organizations engaged in the production, processing, and manufacturing of goods or commodities and have a capital investment of up to PHP3 million.

According to Tacbad, there has been a noticeable rise in enterprises that sell or acquire products online since the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak in 2019. As of this writing, 2,282 MSMEs have registered e-businesses in Zambales and Olongapo City.

The DTI-Zambales has also started the Negosyo Serbisyo sa Barangay (NSB) program, which will give livelihood kits worth PHP495k to 55 recipients from the 11 barangays in the province.

Each livelihood kit comes with tools for processing food, sari-sari shop supplies of food and drink, bamboo craft, and vulcanizing equipment.

The DTI-Zambales had partnered with President Ramon Magsaysay Memorial State University (PRMMSU) to conduct bamboo planting projects, establish the Zambales Bamboo Industry Development Council, and provide skill training on bamboo products in order to promote the advantages of bamboo as an alternative material for livelihood.

A further PHP4.07 million was given out by the DTI-Zambales to 588 recipients of its “Pangkabuhayan sa Pagbangon at Ginhawa” program.

In the meantime, SM City (Olongapo) Central Supermarket received the DTI Bagwis Award (gold) from DTI-Zambales on Monday, and ADD Garbes Servitek, also in Olongapo City, received the DTI Bagwis Award (silver).

The DTI Bagwis Awards are a mark of appreciation for any company that upholds consumer rights and engages in ethical business practices so that customers receive the best value for their money.

Businesses that have excelled at fostering social responsibility are granted the silver medal, and those who have met both the criteria for the silver award and implemented quality-orientated management are given the gold seal.
