After an increase in the number of cases of hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD),…

As cases of hand, foot, and mouth illness increase, parents and children are informed.

In light of the rise in cases recorded in Metro Manila and other parts of the nation, the general public is recommended to adopt preventative measures against hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD).
Since there is no known cure or vaccine for HFMD, infectious disease expert Dr. Rontgene Solante advised parents to take preventive measures by making sure their kids wash their hands frequently.
He stated in a Laging Handa briefing on Thursday that washing hands is the most crucial preventative measure in this situation. “There is no medicine for this because this is a viral infection,” he added.
Fever, uncomfortable mouth sores, and a rash with blisters on the hands, feet, and buttocks are typical HFMD symptoms.
The World Health Organization warns that more serious symptoms like meningitis, encephalitis, and paralysis similar to polio could also appear.
Solante advised parents to take their children to the hospital for observation if they vomit.
The Department of Health stated that despite there being 155 HFMD cases in Metro Manila as of October, there is not yet sufficient evidence to declare an outbreak.
According to Solante, a disease outbreak could only be declared if it is also spreading in nearby districts, if the number of cases has doubled from the prior year, or if hospitals are overflowing with HFMD patients.
At this time, the 155 cases do not provide sufficient cause for an outbreak to be declared, the man added.
