OAV registration reopens on Friday: Comelec

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) reminded Filipinos who are employed or residing abroad on Thursday that overseas voter registration would resume on Friday, December 9.

The registration period, which runs until September 30, 2024, according to the Comelec’s Office for Overseas Voting (OFOV), is intended to get people ready for the midterm elections in 2025.

The Comelec stated in a public notice that “all qualified Filipino citizens, who are not registered overseas voters, may file their applications for registration at any Post abroad, or specified registration centers outside the Post, or at the approved registration centers in the Philippines.”

Citizens of the Philippines who will be overseas or out of the country for at least one day during the 30-day midterm election voting period (April 13, 2025, to May 12, 2025) and who will be at least 18 years old on election day are eligible to register.

The Overseas Voter Registration Form (OVF1), which can be downloaded from the Comelec website, must be completed by the applicants and personally delivered to the authorized registration locations in order to register.

They must also provide their Philippine passport, an OVF1, an original or certified true copy of the Order of Approval of their application to retain or reacquire their Filipino citizenship issued by Post in the case of applicants who reacquired their Filipino citizenship, or a Certification issued by the Post stating that it has received and reviewed the relevant documents submitted by the applicant and found them sufficient to warrant the issuance of a passport.

Those Filipinos who have lost their Filipino citizenship, have sworn allegiance to a foreign nation, except dual citizens as defined by “The Citizenship Retention and Reacquisition Act of 2003,” have committed an offense and have been found guilty in a final judgment by a court or tribunal of an offense punishable by imprisonment for a term not less than one year, and any citizen of the Philippines abroad who has previously been declared in a declaration made pursuant to “The Citizenship Retention and Reacquisition Act of 2003”

Those who register will be able to cast ballots for senators and party-list representatives as well as other national candidates in the May 2025 midterm elections.

The overseas voting period will start in April 2025 and last for one month.
