Marinduque farmers learn agribusiness techniques

39 farmers in Marinduque completed the Farm Business School (FBS) program, which consists of 25 sessions, and now have new skills for being “agripreneurs.”
DAR Assistant Secretary for Support Services Ubaldo Sadiarin Jr. said in a statement on Wednesday that the program’s goals are to help farmers acquire and advance their knowledge and abilities in managing their farms and to help agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) become agricultural entrepreneurs.
The intentions of Secretary Conrado Estrella to shape the ARBs into the new generation of farmers who are also businessmen include teaching farmers contemporary farming techniques and the fundamentals of business, he said.
According to Sadiarin, farmers were taught market research, accounting, agricultural budget planning, benchmarking, and market matching under the FBS program.
Federico Larracas, a member of the Bintakay Farmers Association and one of the FBS graduates, praised DAR for the assistance they have received from the government.
Larracas claimed that he will be able to use his newfound knowledge on his own land.
Additionally, each graduate received a set of agricultural tools, including a rotatiller, 20 electric knapsack sprayers, mulching film, ultraviolet plastic sheet, seeds, and vermicast.
DAR stated that the PHP168,000 in farm equipment will be used for the Bintakay Farmers Association’s organic vegetable farming as well as the rice fields.
