PNP chief warns people not to use illegal fireworks



The Philippine National Police (PNP) head Gen. Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr. has cautioned people not to purchase illegal firecrackers as it might risk lives with just a few weeks till New Year’s Eve celebrations.
The PNP would continue to crack down on illegal firecrackers that are dangerous to civilians, he further cautioned illegal merchants.
On Thursday, Azurin and representatives from the government went to the Dinglasan Compound in Barangay Turo, Bocaue, Bulacan, to inspect shops that sell fireworks.
Governor Daniel R. Fernando of Bulacan, Vice Governor Alexis C. Castro, Regional Director Geraldine M. Panlilio of the Department of Labor and Employment, Mayor Eduardo J. Villanueva, and other members of the Pyrotechnics Regulatory Board was in attendance with Azurin (PRB).
In order to maintain a secure and tranquil Yuletide season, he stated, “we are conducting this inspection to assure the public that the relevant provisions under Republic Act 7183 on regulating, manufacturing, and distributing firecrackers are rigorously implemented.”
The inspection also serves to ensure that health and safety regulations are being followed, particularly in the pyro industry, and to promote the pyro sector by letting the public know that fireworks are not entirely prohibited in the nation.
Azurin and the other members of the inspection team went through each stall to make sure it was compliant with the rules regarding size, weight, and brand as well as whether it had a fire extinguisher for protection.
The PNP commander has also directed their anti-cybercrime unit (ACG) to constantly monitor the Internet for anybody trafficking illicit fireworks from outside.
“Firecrackers imported from abroad are prohibited and illegal. As a result, he stated, “Our ACG is constantly doing cyber patrols in an effort to apprehend people who are selling online.”
The PNP head declared that unlabeled domestically created firecrackers and pyrotechnics as well as all imported completed goods were banned.
