Church officials in Quiapo examine the ‘Walk of Faith’ route

A little more than a month before the “Walk of Faith” procession from the Quirino Grandstand in Luneta to the Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene in Quiapo, organizers, and officials evaluated the route of the procession for the Jan. 8 event.

The minor basilica stated in a social media post on Saturday that the inspection and walk-through were done on December 6 to make sure the streets where the “Walk of Faith” will be held are secure.

The statement stated that as part of the celebration of the Feast of Jesus the Nazarene on January 8, 2023, “The Quiapo church undertook an inspection and evaluation of the route of the Walk of Faith.”

Instead of the customary Traslacion, a parade for Nazarene devotees without the actual treasured picture will be held.

A health precaution due to the ongoing threat posed by the coronavirus sickness, Traslacion will still be suspended in 2023, Quiapo Church officials stated last month.

It is anticipated that the “Walk of Faith,” which will begin at 2 a.m., will endure for two hours.

Prior to the walk, the basilica’s rector, Father Rufino Sescon Jr., will preside over a Eucharistic Celebration at midnight.

It has been suggested that followers only carry small reproductions of the image and candles if they plan to participate in the march.

However, there will also be other celebration-related events, such as the Feast Day Mass at the Quirino Grandstand, which will be officiated by Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula, and the ongoing Fiesta Masses at the Basilica from the afternoon of January 8 to the evening of January 9, for a total of 34 Masses.

From January 7 to January 9, the picture will be on exhibit at the Grandstand.

The Church has already determined the procession’s route: it will leave the Luneta Grandstand/parade grounds and proceed right onto Katigbak Drive before turning left onto Padre Burgos and crossing the Jones Bridge.

It will turn right onto Dasmarinas Street from Jones Bridge, then right onto Sta. Cruz then left Palanca Street from Quezon Boulevard, then right onto Arlegui Street from Casal Street.

Then, it will turn right onto Carcer Street, left onto Hidalgo Street, and right onto Concepcion Street.

In order to get to Quiapo Church from Hidalgo, turn left at Bilibid Viejo/G. Puyat Street, then left at Guzman Street, right at Palanca Street, and again at Villalobos Street.
At the Quirino Grandstand at 12:01 a.m. on January 9, Manila archbishop Cardinal Jose Advincula will officiate at the Feast Day Mass.
