From January to September, 72K tourists visited the town of Siargao.
Between January and September of this year, 71,904 domestic and international tourists visited the town of Gen. Luna on Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte.
68,006 of the total visitors were locals, according to data released by the Caraga Region Department of Tourism (DOT-13) on Monday, while 3,898 were tourists from outside the country.
The biggest number of visitors was reported in August of this year, when 1,191 foreign visitors and 20,093 local visitors came to Gen. Luna town, according to the DOT-13’s report.
The months of July and September saw the greatest local and international visits, with 15,402 and 14,127, respectively.
Gen. Luna is regarded as the nation’s surfing hub and hosts annual international and national events from September to October.
In contrast, the same statistics revealed that the town of Dapa, also in Siargao, saw 9,389 local visitors arrive there.
2,086 arrivals totaling 1,738 locals and 348 foreigners were recorded in the municipality of San Isidro over the same time period.
According to the data, there were also 1,662 arrivals in the town of Socorro, including 1,484 local guests and 178 foreign visitors.
One of the places that draw both domestic and international tourists to the area is the renowned Sohoton Cove.
