To improve Davao City’s disaster response, Central 911
Early in the upcoming year, the Davao City Catastrophe Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) – Central 911 is eager to train more competent staff in emergency response and disaster preparedness.
Alfredo Baloran, the director of CDRRMO, revealed their plans to add more instructors in a radio interview on Monday.
He said people could anticipate additional training and drills to improve their preparedness for catastrophes.
In addition to government offices, Baloran stated that “we will continue to provide training and orientations in private offices and companies.”
At the 22nd Gawad KALASAG Seal and Special Awards for Excellence in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) and Humanitarian Assistance on December 7, Davao Central 911 took home the Best Government Emergency Management Systems and Response Teams (GEMs) award.
According to Baloran, the prize is not just a testament to the outstanding work of Central 911 and the CDRRMO, but also to the city’s comprehensive emergency management plan and public involvement.
He declared, “This is not just for our office, but also for all of the local government’s offices, and most importantly for our fellow people who also support the services we provide to them.
He said that the award, which came with a PHP300,000 cash reward, was presented at the Manila Hotel.
The Gawad KALASAG Awards, administered by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, honor local DRRM offices, public response teams, civil society organizations, and people for their outstanding contributions to disaster risk reduction, emergency response, and climate change adaptation.
