Elon Musk, the company’s new owner and CEO, revealed on Friday that at least 1.5 billion inactive Twitter accounts would be deleted soon.

Musk claimed that Twitter would soon begin releasing the namespace of its 1.5 billion accounts. These are plainly deleted accounts that haven’t tweeted or logged in in years.

The action comes after Musk said in November that he would delete accounts that had not been active in the previous 15 years. Musk wrote: “Please be aware that Twitter will do a lot of stupid things in the near future. We’ll stick with what works and discard what doesn’t “on Nov. 9.

Additionally, he concurred with a post from October that recommended deleting inactive accounts after more than a year.
The social media juggernaut started eliminating spam accounts on November 30; he had pushed for this before purchasing Twitter for $44 billion at the end of October.

According to a financial results statement posted on July 22, Twitter’s average monetizable daily active usage was 237.8 million in the second quarter, up 16.6% over the same time the previous year.

According to the statement, “The growth was driven by continued product improvements and worldwide discussion surrounding current events.”

Since assuming control of Twitter, Musk has made a number of quick and contentious changes, including banning remote work for employees and laying off half of the company’s personnel.
