Members will benefit from increased PhilHealth contributions in 2023.

By the next year, members of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) will pay a higher monthly payment.

Rey Balea, senior manager of PhilHealth Corporate Communications, stated the monthly payment would be increased from this year’s 4 percent to 4.5 percent based on the Universal Health Care (UHC) law in a televised public briefing on Monday.

He pointed out that the UHC law’s provisions had been adjusted to ensure that Filipinos had access to medical care and that the business would be financially protected as PhilHealth carried out the country’s healthcare system.

The monthly contributions are split 50/50 between the company and the employee, with the other half paid by the employee.

“Position po sa kumikita ng PHP10,000 kada buwan, times 4.5 percent beginning January. 450 PHP has been contributed as of right now. And if there is a disagreement between the employer and the employee, the employee’s portion is PHP225. (For individuals making PHP10,000 per month, multiplied by 4.5 percent starting in January, the monthly contribution is PHP450.) The employee’s part, if it is split between the employer and the employee, will only be PHP225),” Balea noted.

The additional contribution would support maintaining the current level of benefits and advancing and strengthening the UHC statute.

Beginning in 2019, the monthly contribution modifications will last until 2025.

The extra money would go toward the 2023 benefit plan, which would cover things like KonSulTa (Konsultasyong Sulit at Tama), which will offer consultations, health risk assessments, laboratory tests, and medications; outpatient therapeutic care for severe and acute malnutrition; an outpatient mental health package; and a continuous Covid-19 benefit package as long as the pandemic persists.

In accordance with the modified monthly contributions, the UHC law also calls for the provision of full outpatient benefits.
