Comelec encouraged to register over the holiday season
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) issued a fresh request to voters on Wednesday, urging them to set aside a day during the Christmas break to register for the October 2023 elections for the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) and barangays.
Two days after 18 municipal election offices in Antique resumed voter registration on December 12, provincial election supervisor Tomas Valera made the request in an interview on Wednesday.
The Christmas break for students will begin this week, so individuals who are 15 years old and older are encouraged to use the time to enroll themselves, according to Valera.
As of Wednesday, 150 registrants had been reported by the province’s numerous municipal Comelec offices.
The Comelec offices in the municipalities are open for voter registration from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to Valera.
He said that the Comelec is open on Saturdays as well as on December 30 and January 2.
In Antique, 387,998 people registered to vote on May 9, 2022. According to Valera, they anticipate at least the same number of people to vote in both the SK and barangay elections.
The voting age range for the SK elections is 15 to 30 years old, whereas the voting age for barangay officials is 18 years and older.
