Business leaders in Europe praised President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for his performance at the C-Suite Luncheon, where he promoted investments and climate change action.

According to a press release from Malacaang, the executive director of the European Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines (ECCP), Florian Gottein, the business executives were impressed by Marcos’ dedication to the programs for regional economic integration.

“President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s speech during a C-Suite Luncheon with European Business Leaders before the 10th ASEAN-EU [Association of Southeast Asian Nations-European Union] business summit in which he called for more European investments in the Philippines and he asked for more support from Europe on climate action issues received very positive reactions from European business leaders,” Gottein said in a statement.

The ECCP is a bilateral foreign chamber that advances both Philippine and European interests in the Philippines.

Top European leaders, according to Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Undersecretary Ceferino Rodolfo, praised Marcos’ commitment to attending all meetings despite getting a cold.

‘This didn’t come from us, but rather from the’: “Hindi po nanggagaling sa atin ‘to, pero galing mismo doon sa mga (European merchants) They were greatly moved by the president’s valiant and heroic perseverance, Rodolfo remarked.

He mentioned how Marcos insisted on going to the meetings even though he was on the verge of going deaf.

“Lahat po ng mga meeting niya w/ the businesses, pinuntahan niya ho w/o siyang boses, talagang pinilit niya ho mabigay ‘yung mensahe niya. Even though he could no longer speak, Sabi niya insisted on attending all of his meetings with businessmen in order to deliver his message. As the President of the Philippines, I must send the messages inviting the investors, he remarked.

noisy voice

Marcos thanked the audience for listening to him despite his “squeaky voice” in his final remarks at the 10th ASEAN-EU Business Summit, adding that “winter is not suitable for Filipinos.”

He said, “Thank you for putting up with this really odd, squeaky voice.

At the C-Suite Luncheon, he also expressed regret to business executives and acknowledged that he was not accustomed to the cold.

The 65-year-old President continued, “I would also like to take this opportunity to apologize for my voice, but you must understand that a temperature difference of —- from 35 degrees to -3 is a tremendous jump for my old body.”

Marcos “had a cold,” according to House Speaker Martin Romualdez, the President’s cousin, who made the claim earlier when Marcos chose to skip a scheduled media session on Tuesday (Brussels time).

The EU-ASEAN Business Council continues to “play a critical role” in strengthening ASEAN’s regional economic integration and post-pandemic economic recovery efforts, Marcos underscored in the same speech.

He expressed the hope that trade and investment between the EU and ASEAN would pick up steam in 2023 and beyond.

Additionally, he expressed gratitude to the EU-ASEAN Business Council for its ongoing engagement and support of ASEAN at all levels, from sectoral organizations to leaders.
