2023 GAA will maintain economic growth and take care of urgent demands

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s signature of the 2023 General Appropriations Act (GAA) signifies a continuance of the government’s initiatives to support economic growth and expand opportunities for Filipinos.

The chairman of the Finance Committee, Senator Sonny Angara, gave assurances on Friday that Congress would make every effort to see that the PHP5.268 trillion national budget was signed before the end of the year.

The need to make sure that aid is delivered to those who need it the most and to maintain momentum in the nation’s path towards economic recovery, he said in a statement, “was shared by both panels, notwithstanding differences on several matters during the bicameral conference committee meetings.

Angara stated that the targeted assistance for Filipinos most affected by the pandemic will continue, citing the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), scholarships, the Libreng Sakay (Free Ride) Program, medical assistance for low-income patients, and pension increases for elderly indigent people.

The 2023 GAA also includes benefits and allowances for frontline healthcare workers.

Malaking bahagi ng 2023 GAA, mahigit PHP170 billion, ay nakatugon sa sektor ng agrikultura kung saan ang ating Pangulo mismo ang personal na nakatutok (A significant chunk of the 2023 GAA, more than PHP170 billion, would boost the agriculture sector which our President personally leads),” he said.

Angara claimed that while debating the 2023 GAA, Congress was fully cognizant of the necessity for the government to make beneficial investments in human and material capital in order to uplift the populace, generate income, and meet Filipinos’ most pressing needs.

“This budget is based on a plan for prosperity, as expressed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Like the previous two years, we are no longer playing catch-up and responding to developments “he observed

The legislator thanked his colleagues for their varied contributions and efforts to ensure that the budget for 2023 is adopted as soon as possible.

President Marcos signed the 2023 GAA in Malacaang on Friday after arriving late on Thursday from his official visit to Belgium.
