Landing center to provide Bataan fishermen with a reliable income

In order to provide fisherfolk with a reliable source of income, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Central Luzon (BFAR-3) established a community fish landing center (CFLC) in Limay, Bataan.
The center, which is situated in Barangay Wawa, was inaugurated on Thursday in ceremonies presided over by BFAR-Central Luzon Fisheries Post-Harvest and Marketing Division Chief Stephen Arlo Lapid, Bataan Provincial Fishery Officer Harlyn Purzuelo, and other local officials. The center was established in partnership with the local government unit of Limay town.
The CFLC’s building cost, which included freezers and other fish processing equipment, was estimated to be more than PHP3 million.
The CFLC will hold post-harvest instruments and equipment that will allow fishermen to maintain the excellent quality of their fish and fisheries products, which they may sell for a better price, according to BFAR Regional Director Wilfredo Cruz on Friday.
Cruz added that consumers and locals alike will gain from the fish landing center since it will improve their access to high-quality, safe fishery products.
In an interview, he stated that “the facility will act as a hub for landing and trade of fish and other seafood products.”
He added that the CFLC is an attempt by the government to reduce market channels that make it difficult for fishermen to earn more money.
“We are setting up CFLCs where the fishers themselves will run them. Customers would buy directly from them, he said, “Diretso nang bibili yung mga client sa kanila.
The BFAR official stated that the facility will also be used as a location for skill-building programs on resource management and livelihoods based on fisheries that are disaster-resistant, including monitoring fish capture and stock evaluation.
Nelson David, the mayor of Limay, also praised the BFAR for continuing to support the fishing community.
According to David, the construction of the CFLC will be extremely beneficial to small fishermen and fish dealers because it may guarantee a decrease in post-harvest losses.
He declared, “This will be the hub of the landing of fish and other seafood items obtained by our fisher folks. It is the bagsakan of the many kinds of isda at the other end of the line.”
