Mayor Benjamin Magalong reminded locals and visitors on Thursday that the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) still poses a threat and that it is important to maintain the minimum public health standards in light of the increase in visitor numbers as Christmas draws near.

In a television interview, Magalong stated, “We still have the pandemic, so we still have to be mindful of our protocols – wearing of masks, especially in congested locations, indoors, and at the same time, we want you to enjoy.”

Despite a surge in visitors, Baguio continues to fall under the Covid-19 low-risk category.

The average daily attack rate decreased from 4.3 to 3.6 per 100,000 people, and there were an average of 117 to 119 reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests performed per day over the previous two weeks, according to municipal health officials.

We would want to remind our residents that this will be a busy holiday season, particularly because many tourists will be in Baguio who want to view the city while we are enhancing and beautifying it, Magalong added.

The majority of the 25,000 to 40,000 tourists that visited the city each week arrived on weekends, according to the tourism office.

According to Magalong, “We’re building a better Baguio, so expect our tourists, the traffic, convergence in our malls, the market, and also crowding.”

Additionally, he recommended individuals who have not yet received the Covid-19 vaccine to do so in order to protect themselves against the virus’s potentially harmful effects.
