According to a report released on Thursday by the Bureau of Working Conditions (BWC) of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), 90% of commercial enterprises countrywide were in compliance with General Labor Standards as of November.

Alvin Curada, Director IV of the DOLE-BWC, reported that the highest compliance rate was found in five regions.

As of November 2022, our adherence to general labor standards was 90%. Only minor variations could be found in each region, although the Cordillera Administrative Region, Mimaropa, Regions 6, 7, and 10, as well as Region 10, had a high compliance rate, he noted at the Laging Handa briefing.

Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Compliance faced numerous difficulties, according to Curada.

The absence of a safety officer and a first aider is one of the issues, according to the establishments we checked. The Bureau of Fire Protection did not issue any Fire Safety Inspection Certificates, and other businesses did not develop Occupational Safety and Health procedures. So, he continued, “The inspection next year needs to look at these five components of Occupational Safety and Health Law.

As of November, more than 80,000 enterprises had been examined by the DOLE, exceeding the year’s objective of 75,000 businesses, according to Curada.

“We have already examined 80,915 establishments as of November 2022, surpassing our 75,000 inspection goal for 2022. We have surpassed our yearly goal, he declared.

“We typically do a scheduled, routine inspection. This is based on a list of businesses that we receive from the local governments and the Philippine Statistics Authority, and it is scheduled for an inspection from January to October 2022,” he added.
