On Christmas Day, BI records over 29K arrivals.

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) reported on Monday that more than 29,000 visitors, including Filipino passengers, entered the nation on Christmas Day to celebrate the holiday with their relatives.

According to Dana Krizia Sandoval, the number was significantly greater than in prior years during the height of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) epidemic.

“On December 25, there were 29,968 people who arrivedโ€ฆ

On Christmas Day, there were a total of 27,934 departures, she stated at the Laging Handa briefing.

“And this is much higher than it was the previous two years. Because, as you may recall, the past two Christmas seasons were quite depressing due to the fact that so few people traveled as a result of the global travel bans enforced as a result of the pandemic. Many nations, including the Philippines, are now opening up once more, as we can see. So that we can once more see excitement and joy in our airports,” she continued.

According to Sandoval, the figure is anticipated to rise during the rest of 2022.

Since our countrymen and their families are going home to spend Christmas and New Year, our arrivals are pretty high, according to our projection, which extends all the way to the new year, she said.

She stated that more departures are anticipated to occur in the early months of 2023.

Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who are deployed and our countrymen who live abroad typically return to their home countries at the beginning of the new year, she said.

The Bureau stated that about 32,000 people arrived on Christmas Eve. The terminals at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) saw the majority of the arrivals.

There were 22,248 departures on that particular day.
