Families in Zamboanga City’s flood-affected regions have received relief aid from the vice president’s office as a result of the shear line’s severe rains over the Christmas holiday.
When warm and cold winds collide in the atmosphere, it creates a shear line, which leads to the formation of rain clouds.
The OVP-Disaster Operations Center (DOC) announced in a statement on Tuesday that it reached affected families in isolated locations on Sunday night.
“On Sunday, the OVP-DOC distributed the aforementioned relief kits to families in the barangays of Putik, Cabuluay, Culianan, Pasolobong, and Boalan. The distribution of assistance boxes in Barangay Tumaga, however, was carried out on December 26 in the morning due to heavy rain, it stated.
In a Facebook post, the vice president claimed that the OVP-DOC closely collaborated with federal, state, and local government organizations to ensure the prompt delivery of relief supplies.
We were able to distribute the relief box “sa tulong ng (With the support of) Western Mindanao Command, Marine Battalion Landing Team 11, 74th Infantry Battalion, OVP Zamboanga Satellite Office, and City Social Welfare and Development Office of Zamboanga City,” she said.

Over 400 people are reportedly residing in several Zamboanga City evacuation locations, according to the OVP-DOC.
According to the local government of Zamboanga City, there are currently eight evacuation centers open in the city due to the flooding.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council’s most recent statistics, there have already been 13 fatalities, one of them was from Zamboanga.
