32 people have died as a result of Christmas rains and floods.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said that at least 32 people have perished as a result of the torrential rains brought on by shear lines that have inundated various areas of the nation.
Seven of the 32 have been confirmed thus far, according to the agency’s most recent bulletin on Thursday; three of them are in Regions 8 (Eastern Visayas) and 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula), and one is in Caraga.
Reports of an additional 25 deaths—18 in Region 10 (Northern Mindanao), six in Region 5 (Bicol), and one in Region 9—are being verified.
Only three of the 24 reported missing people as of this posting have been located. Regions 8 and 9 are represented by two of the missing people and Region 8 by one.
The validity of the reported 21 missing people is still being determined; there are 11 in Region 5, 9 in Region 8, and 1 in Region 10.
Two of the eleven injured have been confirmed in Regions 9 and 11. There are 11. Validation is being done on the remaining nine, all of which are in Region 10.
After two days of intense rain ruined Christmas celebrations and forced tens of thousands of people to seek shelter in evacuation centers or relatives’ homes, the majority of the casualties were caused by drowning during flash floods.
In Muslim Mindanao’s Regions 4-A (Mimaropa), 6, 8 (Western Visayas), 9, 10, 11, Caraga, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, 4,068 dwellings were reported destroyed. 3,322 of these were deemed “somewhat damaged,” and 746 were deemed “completely damaged.”
Damage to agriculture was estimated to be worth PHP205,539,170, while damage to infrastructure was pegged at PHP51,550,000.
In the meantime, the impacted families in Upper Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City, have received the food, clothing, and other supplies they required from Army personnel, reservists, and the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
