Italy is having the hottest year on record since 1800, according to the National Research Center of Italy.
Bernardo Gozzini, a climatologist at the Center, claims that the high temperatures in December 2022 are consistent with the other 11 months.
Gozzini added that the record for low temperatures occurred in 2018 and that the year’s record for both high and average temperatures.
On New Year’s Eve, temperatures across the nation are predicted to be 5 to 6 degrees Celsius higher than average.
Due to the excessive heat and lack of rainfall throughout the year, Italy went through the worst drought in the previous 70 years.
According to Coldiretti, the largest organization of farmers in the country and Europe with 1.5 million members, the drought resulted in losses of €6 billion ($6.4 billion), particularly in the agricultural sector.
