The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) welcomed Undersecretary Ariel Nepomuceno as its new administrator, describing his appointment as a sort of homecoming given that he served as the organization’s executive officer in 2012.

“The OCD warmly welcomes Undersecretary Ariel Nepomuceno as its new leader. His appointment as CDA (Civil Defense Administrator) is a sort of homecoming for him as he previously served as OCD’s civil defense executive officer in 2012 “Mark Cashean Timbal, the OCD’s public affairs officer, said in a statement.

Nepomuceno succeeded Undersecretary Raymundo Ferrrer, who was appointed to the position in August, as OCD chief by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. Following rituals at the Department of National Defense’s central office in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City, he officially assumed control of the OCD on Thursday.

Soon after his initial tenure at the OCD, Nepomuceno worked for the Bureau of Customs as deputy commissioner for enforcement. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council’s OCD is its implementing division.

Undersecretary Nepomuceno, a seasoned public servant, would bring to OCD his years of administrative expertise as well as the motivation to advance the national resilience agenda to protect Filipino communities from catastrophe hazards, Timbal added.

The OCD is tasked with leading the continuous development of strategic and systematic approaches as well as measures to reduce vulnerability and risk to hazards and manage the effects of national disasters in order to administer a comprehensive national civil defense and disaster risk reduction and management program.

“OCD also wants to express its gratitude to Undersecretary Raymundo Ferrer for his sage guidance, concern for the agency and all of its personnel, and selfless devotion in maintaining the safety and well-being of all Filipino communities during his illustrious time. We wish him the best of luck as he starts new efforts away from the business. Good luck to you, Usec Ding Ferrer!” Timbal remarked.
