An official reported on Tuesday that the Dumaguete Subport of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) has collected more than PHP2 billion more in income than was anticipated for 2022.

The Philippine News Agency was informed by Gina Fatima Lasola, acting Dumaguete Customs Collector, that their office’s goal for the previous year was PHP6.451 billion.

She stated that the actual total collection was estimated to be more than PHP8.591 billion, exceeding the target by 38.76 percent.

She remarked in a combination of English and Cebuano, “Fuel importation, as usual, was the greatest contributor, but rice importation also brought in some cash generation.”

Lasola complimented the frequent importers, including Dumaguete Coconut Mills, Inc. for its import of palm olein and Filoil Logistics Corp. for its increased import of petroleum products, among others.

Higher import duties were imposed on Filoil as a result of the current conflict in Ukraine, which has increased fuel prices globally, she claimed.

She did not specify how much, but the corporation increased import volume despite higher oil prices.

20,971,157 kilograms of rice were imported from Vietnam, valued at more than PHP369 million, with taxes totaling more than PHP132 million.

At least four ships that were flying the Chinese flag were converted to fly the Philippine flag, adding to the additional taxes the Dumaguete Subport was able to collect, according to Lasola.

After an absence of conversions from China for around two years because of the Covid-19 outbreak, the vessels arrived during the last quarter of 2022, she continued.

Lasola commended her team for their dedication and perseverance in meeting or exceeding their 2022 collection goal.
