California’s governor issues an emergency proclamation before a winter storm

In advance of a dangerous winter storm, California Governor Gavin Newsom issued an emergency declaration on Wednesday.
The declaration of an emergency would allow for the activation of the state’s National Guard to assist in disaster response.
In a statement, Newsom said, “California is mobilizing to keep people safe from the impacts of the impending storm.” The declaration of an emergency will enable the state to act rapidly as the storm intensifies and to assist local authorities in their ongoing response.
The National Weather Service has predicted snow, strong gusts, and the possibility of more floods after the recent severe rains and snowfall in California.
Forecasts predict that southern California will experience heavy precipitation through Thursday night on Wednesday evening into Thursday morning in northern California.
The forecasts caution that residual flooding effects may last until the weekend.
Additionally, the governor’s administration advised citizens to avoid non-essential travel on Wednesday night and Thursday morning while the storm was at its worst.
Additionally, residents were advised to keep enough non-perishable food and water on hand for each member of their home for three days and to only use their refrigerators and freezers when absolutely required.
