DSWD mentions ongoing assistance for weather-related victims.

Officer-in-Charge of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Eduardo Punay, has thanked the DSWD staff members for devoting their time and energy to providing a timely and consistent response to the afflicted community during times of crisis.

Punay said in a virtual meeting with representatives of various DSWD field offices on Thursday that “such service helps the Department to fulfill its mandate to render and extend assistance to the needy and to continue relief operations in times of troubles like the prolonged weather disturbances now happening in various regions of the country.”

Because of the disaster response work we are doing, we are one of the top three best-performing agencies, Punay added.

Since the effects of the shear line on December 26, 2022, which affected a total of 161,145 families, or 645,097 people, in 1,044 barangays in Regions V, VI, VIII, IX, X, XI, Caraga, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, the DSWD has provided assistance totaling more than PHP40 million to the affected localities (BARMM).

The DSWD delivered more than PHP2 million in humanitarian relief to Visayan communities that had been hit by severe rains brought on by a low-pressure region (LPA).

The Department responded to the reported flooding incidents in the provinces of Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan (MIMAROPA), providing more than PHP2.8 million in aid in addition to the DSWD to the local government units, mainly in Oriental Mindoro and Palawan.

Its MIMAROPA Field Office identified 32,525 people—or 6,907 families—as being severely impacted by the escalating weather.

The weather disturbance has so far affected about 22,851 families or 95,996 people from 147 barangays in MIMAROPA and Regions V, VIII, X, XI, and Caraga.

The DSWD Field Office in Region 2 has helped 1,285 households, or 4,544 people, who were affected by heavy rains brought on by the northeast monsoon, or “amihan,” in the provinces of Cagayan and Isabela.

In accordance with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s command, the DSWD has committed to enhancing and reinforcing its disaster response activities in order to aid every Filipino.
