Local executives support the police cleansing.

Benhur Abalos Jr., secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), gained a new supporter in his campaign to purge the Philippine National Police of scalawags, particularly those engaged in drug trafficking.

Drug usage, according to the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines (ULAP), is a complicated issue that has turned into a chronic health condition and has a negative impact on communities and families.

“Drug addiction is a complicated issue that exists at the nexus of social, safety, and public health concerns. Therefore, it needs to be handled by planned and focused actions within the bounds of the law “In a declaration of support over the weekend, Quirino Province Governor Dax Cua, the president of ULAP, said.

Cua commended Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. for spearheading the effort to purge the ranks of bad cops.

Knowing that he would make enemies as a result of his request for our police, it requires guts and humility to make such a request “explained Cua. “This is a problem that goes beyond personal and professional considerations. Our country is asking us to make sacrifices in order to end the drug epidemic that is preying on our citizens, as stated in the phrase “Tinatawag tayo ng bansa natin para magsakripisyo upang malutas ang halimaw na droga na bumibiktima sa ating mga kababayan.”

The Metro Manila Council (MMC), the policy-making body of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority made up of the 17 mayors of the National Capital Region, released a resolution endorsing Abalos’ action.

Francis Zamora, president of the MMC and mayor of San Juan City, stated that reforms are required to restore public confidence in the PNP and to acknowledge the PNP’s dedication and sacrifice in attaining the drug-free Philippines.

Following Abalos’ request on Wednesday to address allegations of connections between the PNP high brass and illegal drugs, Azurin, his whole command group, and other police officers with the titles of colonel and general have submitted their polite resignations.

The government’s anti-drug initiative Buhay Ingatan, Droga’y Ayawan was simultaneously launched in November of last year under the direction of the DILG (Value Life, Stay Away from Drugs or BIDA).

BIDA works with local government entities, federal government organizations, and other significant facets of society as vital partners to reduce drug demand and rehabilitate drug addicts in the community.

The departments of trade and industry will offer livelihood programs, the departments of labor and employment can help with work prospects, the departments of social welfare and development and of health will aid in rehabilitation programs, and church leaders can offer counseling assistance.
