Iloilo City is still on guard against Covid-19, even though there have been few cases.

Even though there aren’t many cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in Iloilo City, the city is still on high alert because the Department of Health (DOH) has warned about cases coming from China.

“We’re on the lookout. Luckily, the number of cases is going down. At a press conference on Wednesday, Dr. Marigold Calsas, head of the City Health Office-City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CHO-CESU), said, “We only have one death for 2023. He died on December 31, but we only found out about it on January 3 because he was an immunocompromised man from Calumpang.”

She said that from January 1 to January 10, the city only had 13 new confirmed cases, 10 of which were vaccinated and 3 of which were not. All 13 were admitted.

“Those who were let in were not vaccinated. “It’s sad that they don’t understand how important vaccinations are until they get sick,” she said.

In the meantime, Covid-19’s Dr. Roland Fortuna said that fewer people are getting immunized at health centers, especially for booster shots.

Based on information from the CHO, as of this date, 501,143 people, or 146.16 percent of the target population in the city are fully vaccinated and 165,906 people or 48.39 percent have booster shots.

He said that the city government is waiting for the new vaccines to come from the national government so that they can add to the local government’s ongoing Covid-19 vaccination program.

They will be used as extra boosters, but because supplies are limited, they will be given out in the same order as the Covid-19 vaccination program, starting with the frontline health workers.

He added, “This will cover the other strains.”

But the national government hasn’t said when it will come to Iloilo City or how many will be given to the city.
