In an effort to stop leptospirosis, the City Health Office (CHO) is delivering prophylaxis to every barangay affected by the flood, including the first responders.
Leptospirosis is a fever-producing disease connected to flooding and the rainy season. It spreads by rat urine.
Floods have affected at least 7,214 families as a result of the severe rains that have been falling since Wednesday owing to a low-pressure region.
The distribution of prophylaxis is conducted through the health facilities of the communities affected by the floods and at the evacuation shelters, according to Maria Christine Lim, CHO’s health education and promotion officer, who said this on Friday.
According to the city’s agency for disaster risk reduction and management, 7,214 families were impacted and 35 out of the 98 villages in the city were submerged.
According to Lim, the first responders’ preventative measures were relayed through their various workplaces.
The Tzu Chi Foundation has also given 10,000 doxycycline tablets to the CHO and the Zamboanga City Chapter of the Philippine Red Cross.
A tetracycline antibiotic called doxycycline is used to treat a variety of bacterial illnesses, including cholera, typhus, chlamydia infections, pneumonia, and urinary tract infections.
