Three significant awards were won by the Surigao del Norte delegation on Sunday at the Sinulog 2023 festival.

Fiesta performers on Sanciangko Street, one of Cebu City’s well-known downtown streets, in the early 1900s, are credited as the event’s forebears by the Omega de Salonera organizers. In the Free Interpretation category of the Ritual Showdown, it was declared the overall winner and awarded PHP1 million in cash.

Additionally, the group won the title of Street Dance Champion, earning it another PHP1,000,000 in cash.

The Surigao del Norte delegation from Bucas Grande Island won second place in the Best Musicality category as well as the Best Costume award.

In the grand parade street dancing category, the well-known local talent Lumad Basakanon, who previously won numerous prizes in the Sinulog competition, came in second, followed by Banay Labangon, Banauan Cultural Group, and Tribu Mabolokon (5th).

The Lumad Basakanon, Bailes De Luces La Castellana of La Castellana municipality in Negros Occidental province, Barangay San Roque Basakanon, and Tribu Mabolokon placed second, third, fourth, and fifth, respectively, in the free interpretation category ceremonial showdown (5th).

The Inayawan Talent Guild and Cultural Troupe, a local group, won the Sinulog-based Ritual Showdown’s top honor, ahead of Barangay Tejero in second, the Banauan Cultural Group in third, Banay Labangon in fourth, and the Alpha Kappa Rho – Cebu Supreme Council in fifth (5th).

Lumad Basakanon won this year’s Free Interpretation Category Best in Musicality Grand Championship, placing ahead of The Omega De Salonera, Barangay San Roque – Ciudad, Bailes de Luces La Castellana – Negros Occidentals, and Hugpong Kabatan-onang Tisaanon in that order (5th).

In the parade puppeteers category, Nino Ruben Mateo won first place, followed by Orly Johnson Fuentes and Angelie Marie Aranas, who were also puppeteers.

Baruc Siblings and Friends took first place in the parade’s “Higante” (giant) category, ahead of Jerald Bilones’ huge and ABC Friendship’s participation.

International Pharmaceuticals, Inc. was declared the winner of the float parade, with the floats of ABC Friendship and the Municipal Government of Tuburan taking second and third place in the competition.

The Department of Tourism, Virginia, Choobi Choobi, and Jeju came in second, third, fourth, and fifth place, respectively, according to the Sinulog organizers, who also gave Cebu2World Megawide-Carbon first place for the Best Tent award.

On Sunday, the Hwacheon Beomangol Nongak Preservation Association from Korea performed on the Sinulog stage.

The Sinulog-based category had five submissions, while the free interpretation category had eleven.

40 entries were submitted for the float, 8 for the giant, and 6 for the puppeteers.
