Weather-related infrastructure and agricultural damage affect P620-M



The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said on Friday that since January 2 a low-pressure region, shear line, and northeast monsoon have caused more than PHP620 million in damage to infrastructure and agriculture.
The OCD stated in a bulletin that the cost of infrastructure damage in Mimaropa, the Bicol Region, Central Visayas, Northern Mindanao, the Davao Region, Soccsksargen, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao was estimated at PHP206.96 million (BARMM).
Agriculture-related losses in the Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Mimaropa, Western and Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, and Soccskargen were assessed at PHP414.35 million.
1,661 damaged homes were counted by the OCD, 1,135 of which were deemed “mostly damaged,” while 526 were deemed “completely damaged.”
It listed the reported deaths as 33, with 18 being verified and 15 still being verified; the number of missing people as seven; and the number of injured people as twelve.
The OCD also reported that 65,048 households, or 264,803 people, were displaced and that 415,133 families, or approximately 1,689,119 people, were affected.
