Baguio locals are asked to maintain a clean environment to prevent dengue

With dengue remaining a threat to the city, Mayor Benjamin Magalong reminded people on Friday to follow the “Tapat Mo, Linis Mo” regulation by keeping their surroundings clean.
“Hindi lang barangay officials, dapat lahat tayo nagtulungan. Walang disiplina ang mga residente ay wala tayong patutunguhan pero nakakalungkot na laging naglilinis ang gobyerno at barangay. The Sagudin Creek tributaries that run through Barangay Cabinet Hill and the Teachers Camp were examined ocularly by the mayor, who discovered trash draining to the neighboring Balili River in La Trinidad, Benguet.

According to the Department of Health (DOH)-Cordillera, dengue incidences in Baguio City increased by 121 percent in 2022 compared to 2021.
Between January 1 and December 31, 2022, the city recorded 2,954 instances, compared to 1,334 cases and nine deaths the year before.
According to DOH-Cordillera entomologist Alexander Baday, dengue is now a year-round illness that can strike anyone, regardless of age or gender.
He informed the populace that even modest volumes of stagnant water encourage the growth of dengue-carrying insects.
