There is nothing improper with Speaker traveling abroad with PBBM: Gonzales

Aurelio “Dong” Gonzales Jr., the deputy speaker and representative for Pampanga’s third congressional district, stated on Monday that there is nothing wrong with Speaker Martin Romualdez traveling with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. abroad, including last week’s attendance at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

“There is nothing improper with the Speaker accepting President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s invitation to travel with him. Gonzales said in a statement that the President “clearly wants him there so that a leader of the Congress could instantly answer concerns about the legislation.”

Gonzales asserted that the fact that the speaker of the House of Representatives attends presidential travels shows that the entire-government approach to problem-solving is effective.

“This strategy has been successful in resolving domestic issues since it calls for cooperation from all sectors. The Speaker’s participation in presidential tours serves as evidence of the executive and legislative arms of government’s cooperation and partnership, he claimed.

According to him, cooperation speeds up the adoption of laws essential for economic growth and national development, such as the recent package of priority administration bills passed by the House on the third and final reading.

Gonzales claimed that if Marcos can impress foreign businesses with an accommodating government, his job of persuading them to invest in the nation will be made easier.

He claimed that “no investor in his right mind” would put money into a country with a discordant national leadership.

The representative for Surigao del Norte’s 2nd district, Robert Ace Barbers, said Romualdez’s participation in the presidential travels unmistakably demonstrated “unity” in the government’s pursuit of foreign investments to maintain the nation’s economic growth.

“Impressing international businesspeople with a government that is acting as one in welcoming them would make the President’s job of persuading them to invest here simpler. Congratulations to Speaker Romualdez and President Marcos, Barbers stated.

In his opinion, Romualdez should be there when the president travels abroad so he can answer right away to questions from the legislature.
