Maynilad will repay southern MM consumers P27.48M.

The Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) announced on Tuesday that it would reimburse its customers in southern Metro Manila who experienced water outages in December a total of PHP27.48 million.

“We and the MWSS RO (Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System Regulatory Office) have reached an understanding regarding the rebate after they studied the factors that led to the service outages and the impacted southern regions. Customers should receive the specifics from the MWSS RO’s Public Information Drive because each customer’s rebate amount depends on their level of competence in the relevant fields, according to a statement from Maynilad.

Additionally, Maynilad reaffirmed its commitment to restoring complete water service to the impacted areas.

“As of this writing, maintenance work is still being done at our water treatment facilities in Putatan, Muntinlupa. To fully restore water service as soon as possible, we are working nonstop. Our mobile water tankers are still making rounds around the impacted areas in the interim,” it added.

The Putatan water treatment plants’ full 300 million liters per day (MLD) output, according to Maynilad, is sufficient to meet the needs of its southern consumers.

Customers thus “quickly feel any drop due to maintenance activities or other causes,” the statement read.

The water company reported that a new treatment facility it is building in Poblacion, Muntinlupa, is currently 53 percent complete.

“This plant is designed to produce 150 MLD of additional supply that will help to eliminate service disruptions and is targeted for completion by yearend,” it continued.

This plant will be able to produce 150 MLD of potable water for the southern portion of Maynilad’s concession area, specifically the cities of Paranaque, Las Pinas, and Muntinlupa, as well as the province of Cavite, once it is completely operational by the first half of 2024.

The Laguna Lake will be tapped by Maynilad’s third facility as a substitute for the Angat Dam as a source of raw water.
