According to the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Bicol (DSWD-5), at least 319,725 households in the Bicol Region have benefited from the 1,358 sub-projects of the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan – Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) for 2022 that have been completed and are worth PHP742.89 million.

The sub-projects were identified through the KALAHI-CIDSS planning process with the help of participatory situational analysis and community dialogues that put a focus on meeting the needs of the community, according to Ranelle Anne Sertan, DSWD-5 social marketing officer.

Barangay halls, a boat, bridges, footpaths, hand washing stations, capability building training, cash-for-works, community centers, health stations, provision of goods and communication devices, daycare centers, disaster and pandemic responses, and flood and river control were among the various sub-projects that were completed in the six provinces in the region, she said in a message sent to reporters.

Pre- and post-harvest facilities, structures, livelihood training, riprap wall and slope protections, roads, small-scale irrigation facilities, and others were also included on the list of projects.

The KALAHI-CIDSS, according to DSWD-5 Regional Director Norman Laurio, is largely focused on improving community members’ involvement in local planning, project implementation, monitoring, and sustainability.

“A sustainability review is carried out six months after the completion of the sub-project and then once a year after that to assure the functionality of the sub-projects. The Multi-Stakeholders Inspectorate Team, which is made up of employees from particular municipalities and barangay local governments as well as community volunteers, administers the evaluation test, the official added.
